Kelanawisata.id, Bantul - The 2025 Mataram Old Market was held on September 26–28, 2025. Held in the courtyard of the Gedhe Mataram Mosque in Kotagede, the market features 30 vendors offering traditional culinary delights and vintage games. The available cuisine includes various types of jenang (sweet rice cakes), beverages, main meals, and snacks.
Beyond the traditional cuisine, the Mataram Old Market 2025 also evokes a nostalgic atmosphere. “It feels like stepping back into the atmosphere of the old Mataram market with its diverse cuisine and ambiance,” said Rafi, a visitor.
The stalls, constructed with bamboo and thatched roofs made of coconut leaves, give the market a vintage feel. Additionally, at night, the dim, characteristic glow from oil lamps enhances the nostalgic atmosphere. This year marks the sixth edition of the Mataram Old Market.
It was opened on Friday, September 26, 2025, by representatives from the DIY Cultural Affairs Office, Jagalan Village, representatives of the Abdi Dalem of the Surakarta and Yogyakarta Sultanates, and distinguished guests. On the first night, performances included dances by the Kembang Mataraman Studio, the Sholawatan Kawula Mataram, and a Wayang Kulit (shadow puppet) performance by Dalang Ki Sena Prakasa.
Culinary treats offered at the 2025 Mataram Old Market include Kipo, Jenang Suran, Jenang Gempol, Kupat Sambel Dochang, Manuk Enom, Legomoro, and various other foods. There are also a variety of beverages, such as Es Limun, Es Gosrok, Es Dung Dung, Ronde, Dawet, and others. “The food here is quite traditional and diverse, but some payments are still cash-based; QRIS isn’t available yet,” said Nindy, a visitor.
The 2025 Mataram Old Market is filled with local SMEs from the area around the Great Mosque of Mataram. This is part of an effort to empower the local economy. The snacks available are also quite affordable. Travelers can expect to spend between Rp3,000 and Rp15,000. Snacks like lemper, es gosrok, and glali candy are priced at Rp3,000. Drinks range from Rp5,000. Meals vary in price from Rp5,000 to Rp12,000.
