Kelanawisata.id, Yogyakarta - Remenjawi, in collaboration with Mataram Foundations, presented an experiential tour package titled ‘Rasa, Tata, Kaluwarga’ at Gadri Resto in Yogyakarta on Saturday (October 10, 2026). Through this event, participants were invited to go beyond the boundaries of conventional tourism by directly experiencing the rhythm of life as a Sentono Dalem—a close relative of the Yogyakarta Palace.
The atmosphere at Gadri Resto suddenly transformed into a time capsule, transporting every guest back to the roots of Mataram tradition. Rather than merely observing from a distance, participants were fully immersed in the philosophy of court life—a world that had long remained tightly sealed behind fortress walls. The presence of Mrs. BRM Nuraida Joyokusumo added a sacred yet warm dimension to every explanation of the noble values passed down through generations.
The procession began with a warm “sugeng rawuh” welcome, during which participants were invited to don traditional attire. Step by step, they were guided through the “keputran” and “keputren” sessions—learning spaces that focus not only on physical appearance but also on inner conduct.
Remen Jawi Project Manager Alma emphasized that the core essence of this event is to evoke a sense of connection. “We present ‘Rasa, Tata, and Kaluwarga’ as a cultural experience so that participants can feel what it’s like to be part of the royal family,” she said during the event.
Tracing the Path of Etiquette and History
Amid the flowing discussion, participants listened to inspiring stories about Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX. These stories served as an introduction to understanding “tata unggah-ungguh,” a system of ethics governing how members of the royal family conduct themselves and interact with others. Participants not only listened but also practiced the way of life of a noble—one filled with caution and respect.
This experience left a deep impression on those in attendance. Asti and Prajaka, two participants, felt they had gained a new perspective on the unwritten rules within the palace. “It was very interesting—they explained ‘tata unggah-ungguh,’ as well as which garments are permitted and prohibited while inside the palace grounds,” they shared enthusiastically.
A Culinary Feast in the Sultan’s Style
The highlight of the journey was a Gala Dinner featuring the “kersanan dalem” menu—the Sultan’s favorite dishes. The savory aroma of Sayur Bobor, paired with the distinctive sambal jenggot, began to fill the room, complementing the sweet flavors of tahu tempe bacem and tender empal srundeng. Not to be missed were the legendary kerupuk, which added texture to every bite, while the refreshing Es Camcau rounded out the culinary experience.
This event demonstrates that quality tourism isn’t just about magnificent destinations, but rather about the power of storytelling and the depth of the experience. Through the collaboration between the Remen Jawi and Mataram Foundations, Yogyakarta is presented in a more intimate light, where everyone has the opportunity to briefly experience what it’s like to be part of the extended Mataram family.
