Kelanawisata.id, Ponorogo – There is a unique myth when enjoying Dawet Jabung in Ponorogo: never take the bowl coaster. “They say if this coaster is taken, the seller must follow. That's the myth,” said Bu Sri Muntanah with a joking smile. This story, passed down through generations, has actually become a special attraction for the customers who come.
This time, we will explore one of the legendary dawet in the city of Reog, namely Dawet Jabung Bu Sumini in Jabung Village, Mlarak, Ponorogo. Bu Sri Muntanah is the third generation continuing this business. “I have been selling dawet since 2006 until now, continuing my mother’s business. My mother continued from her grandmother. It's been quite a long time,” she said.
The uniqueness of Dawet Jabung lies in its ingredients and taste. While cendol is generally made from rice flour, Dawet Jabung uses palm sugar flour to make its Juruh. “The fillings are cendol, fermented glutinous rice, and gempol,” explained Mrs. Sri. This simplicity creates a flavor that lingers on the tongue.
As a pioneer of Dawet Jabung since the 1950s, Dawet Bu Sumini has become a reference for locals and even culinary content creators. The stall is open daily from 9:00 AM to around 4:00–4:30 PM WIB and is always crowded. If Kelana's friends visit Ponorogo, don’t forget to stop by and taste the refreshing Dawet Jabung Bu Sumini, full of stories and tradition.
